Welcome to BlackoutNZ—a movement and kaupapa unapologetically anchored in justice, truth-telling, and community power. We exist to dismantle colonial legacies and patriarchal systems that have long benefited a privileged few while silencing, exploiting, and ignoring the majority—especially wāhine, tamariki, and tangata whenua.
What Drives Us
We aren’t here for polite lobbying or handshake deals behind closed doors. We’re here to flip the table—to centre manaakitanga (care), whanaungatanga (connection), and radical honesty in every conversation about Aotearoa’s future. We fight for a society where power flows from the grassroots up, not from the boardroom down. For too long, wealth has been hoarded at the top, while public services (healthcare, housing, education) are stripped and left to rot. This is no “naturally occurring” crisis. It’s the predictable, engineered result of corporate greed, colonial dispossession, and patriarchal entitlement... enabled by governments of every political colour.
